3 New Years Resolutions For Energy Savings in 2018
The holiday season is a fun yet expensive time of the year for residents in Denver, North Carolina. From shopping for gifts to paying higher energy bills, balancing your budget in December is more of an art than a science. To avoid drowning in debt and starting 2018 on the wrong foot, keep these three new years resolutions for energy savings:
Replace Your Incandescent Bulbs With LED Lights
Lighting accounts for 15 percent of the household energy you consume throughout the year. If you’re still lighting your home with incandescent bulbs, you’re missing out on an opportunity to cut that consumption. LED lights not only help you save up to 75 percent on energy costs associated with lighting but also last 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
Use Your Thermostat Wisely All Year Long
During the winter, set your thermostat to 68 degrees when you’re at home and awake. If you’re away or asleep, turn it down. For every degree below 68, you’ll save up to 2 percent on your wintertime energy costs.
During the summer, set your thermostat to 78 degrees when you’re at home and awake. If you’re away on vacation, turn it up. For every degree above 78, you’ll save up to 2 percent on your summertime energy costs.
Note: Avoid extreme temperature changes to prevent your heating and cooling system from overworking itself.
Invest in a Preventive Maintenance Agreement
If you still own an antiquated manual thermostat, upgrading to a programmable device will help you save more energy without the effort. So will investing in a preventive maintenance agreement, which ensures a professional looks after your system. You benefit from lower energy bills, fewer breakdowns and a longer system lifespan.
